Inspiration: How to make PURPLE work in your wedding!

A colour fit for royals.

So you’ve selected your wedding colour scheme and the main hue’s going to be red. Red LED lights illuminating the room, red bridesmaids dress, red velvet cake, red linens, red carnations, red candles… No, no, no. Hot mess. (I love red, by the way! I’m just saying everything is too much)

For a long time, Purple was my favourite colour and at the ‘ripe’ age of thirteen, I had already decided that Aubergine (a cross between purple and dark red) and Silver would be my wedding colours! Perfect combo right?

Well, I realized  a lot of people already loved purple and well, my affinity changed and now I love canary yellow like crazy! Anyways, purple is a timeless, elegant colour and with the many shades it has (Lilac to Plum), it can work for about any bride depending on her style!

There are many ways to work purple into your wedding without over doing it,this a lot of people don’t know, that’s why you walk into of some weddings feeling you’re trapped in a Grape Crush Jelly Belly bean.

So, you know that phrase ‘something blue’, be your unique, unconventional self and let it be ‘something lavender!’, which brings me to the number one way you can work purple into your wedding:

I. Bride’s Shoes

The chic conservative bride, the playful free-spirit and the sassy sophisticated bride can all work this colour!

Having that bit of colour on your feet instead of the same old boring ivory or cream, brings more attention  to you. And why not? It is your big day.  Your something blue can be something purple!

Purple shoes help to make the beautiful white gown pop more and you’ll definitely want to be raising that tulle skirt up while you’re dancing. Gangnam Style, DJ.

II. Desserts and The Cake!

Your eyes also do some eating.

Let’s admit it. Some of us can’t wait for the part where the couple cuts the cake and we get to feast on it! In fact, it’s all we’re looking forward to. Lemon chiffon, anyone?

Knowing this, don’t let your guests wait that long till it happens. Pamper their sweet teeth with decadent desserts during the cocktail hour in between the service and the reception. Serve cupcakes, brownies, macarons, anything alonside the finest bubbly and you’ll keep them excited about celebrating your union at the reception!

So if you’re going to do that, why not let their eyes feast too! Ask your baker/confectioner to work the colour purple into the batter, if possible, in different shades, to create a beautiful ombre cake  (see above). Macarons too look perfect in purple and so does that hydrangea-inspired frosting!

Speaking of the cake, let it not just taste good, let it be another center of attraction at the reception!

III. Lighting

Classy purple affair without overdoing it.

Never underestimate the power of lighting!

LED lights are such a gift to mankind. These babies can be put up against the wall to create the perfect colour-appropriate wedding reception ambience or put among centerpieces to give the flowers a glowing effect.

However they are used, LED lights amp up a place, brightening and giving it all round elegance.

IV. Centerpieces

Aren’t you in love?

In art, it’s never good to crowd things. And in wedding decor, I say, the table linens, candles/LEDs, vases and flowers should NEVER be the same colour. Throw in some contrast and make the centerpieces pop!

A nice  purple-of-different-shades flower arrangement (carnations, roses, hydrangeas, calla lilies and phalaenopsis look BEST in purple) sould be complimented by a plain acrylic or silver/gold vase. It’s nice to also throw some petals around on the table but make sure the table cover is a stark contrast from the colour of the petals.

Add some nice bright yellow (perhaps?) candles around the centerpiece and we’re good to go!
Also, for the not-so-enthusiastic-about-flowers, manzanita branches with stringed purple climbing flowers, or flowers hanging from them with crystals, is another good option!

Whatever you do, DON’T OVERDO IT!

V. Bridesmaids’ Dresses

Boho-grecian? Sleek-sophisticated? Whatever your style is, purple works with it!
So, if you want your ladies clad in lilac chiffon, or magenta dupioni silk, it’s up to you!

Just make sure you’re totally comfortable with it, and the ladies are happy too (more importantly, it’s YOUR day).
